Our trips

Trips are organised and run by Grove Ferry River Trips an independent Company from The Grove Ferry Inn, that said we have a good relationship with the Inn but they cannot take bookings on our behalf.

  • Trips run 1200 to early evening... (weather and river permitting)
  • See home page for schedule
  • Strictly limited to a maximum of 12 passengers per trip
  • There is no minimum number of passengers
  • Run on bookings first then first come - first served basis.
  • Trips are up to 50/55 minutes
  • Booking is advised to avoid disappointment
  • The days trip schedule is displayed on the sailing board
  • Go either upstream or downstream (depending on tide and weather)
  • Priced at £10 for adults and £5 for under 16's
  • We accept cash and card payments
  • Available during days as advised above
  • You may bring your own refreshments onboard
  • Limited number of well behaved dogs are welcome



Book a scheduled Trip

As the scheduled trip but an exclusive hour for you, a cruise up or down river from the Grove Ferry so you can see the countryside, to enjoy the peace, scatter ashes, just to relax, or to celebrate an anniversary. Historical snippets are available from the skipper if that's your thing, maybe spot a kingfisher...

The boat can be booked in advance for special and exclusive use, just a few ideas:-

The following should be considered when booking:

  • maximum number of passengers 12 (larger parties can be catered for only by splitting the group)
  • there is no minimum number of passengers
  • no toilet facilities
  • cost is based on £100 for the trip
  • you may bring your own refreshments onboard


Book exclusive trip

An exclusive cruise of more than 1 hour, allowing for visits to further afield points on the river, E.g. Fordwich, Plucks Gutter or just to spend extra time with friends and relatives whilst relaxing on the river just a few ideas:-

  • Bird Watching

  • Scattering a loved ones ashes

  • Relaxation

  • Trips outside the scheduled service


The following should be considered when booking:

  • Maximum number of passengers 12
  • There is no minimum number of passengers
  • No toilet facilities
  • Daylight hours only
  • cost is £100 per hour
  • Grove to Fordwich (the next possible stopping point up river) is an hour each way with limited access due to river levels and weed growth
  • Grove to Plucks Gutter (the next possible stopping point down river) is 45 minutes each way
  • Stopping at Fordwich or Plucks Gutter is possible with prior agreement.


Book special trip

If it is wildlife you are interested in seeing you can spot some on the day time cruises but for a better chance we recommend you book to join one of our wildlife experiences, we have evening trips up river that are about 2 hours in length and are Ecologist lead. Of course this is "wild" life so nothing can be guaranteed but if nothing else it is a wonderful trip in the Kent countryside with a sunset thrown in

We run wildlife experiences with an ecologist on board who is well versed in the local flora and fauna:-

  • all experiences are about 2 hours
  • cost £25 per head
  • hot drink provided
  • Booking required
  • The Experience is an evening start about an hour before sunset

We are very sorry for your loss and will do our utmost to provide a suitable, respectful journey and location for scattering the ashes on the river Stour in Kent.

Scattering ashes can usually be done within our normal operating schedule but please contact us with your wishes.

We can take a maximum of 12 passengers at a time on our electric boat to a quiet, peaceful and scenic part of the river, ideal for scattering ashes.

You are more than welcome to bring along drinks and nibbles for the journey (Note there is no loo on board) and it is fine if you want to play some music from a mobile phone. Scattering flowers or petals or anything biodegradable along with the ashes is fine.

Please book an exclusive trip and add a note that it is for scattering ashes.
